Interview: Larry Ellenwood and Arif Paul "Emissions Trading Scheme"
The Emissions Trading Scheme initiated by the Rudd Government, which plans to launch in July 2010 will impose a new layer of compliance and carbon price on the Australian business. The 1000 or so large greenhouse gas emitting entities will be directly impacted, but Prof Ross Garnaut's review on the ETS suggests further that the SMEs will be drawn into emissions trading as significant players. There is also the question of how large emitters will manage their supply chains.
Arif Paul, Managing Director of Emission Finance Advisory has worked alongside the UN on developing a sophisticated global carbon market. He also worked within the European Union ETS market since its inception. Arif will explain how the emissions trading scheme works, how small businesses will be engaged and how progressive SMEs can seize this opportunity to make capital gains.
